Neurofeedback training is an effective drug free approach to alleviating depression. Researchers have found that depression is often characterized by a slow and erratic brain wave pattern which originates in the brain’s right hemisphere. This type of brain dysfunction can be the result of one’s genetic predisposition, or it can be developed as a result of numerous other factors.  Regardless of how this pattern of brain dysfunction emerges, Neurofeedback training works by stabilizing and re-harmonizing the brain to significantly reduce, or even eliminate, this dysfunction. As a result of this training the brain may actually modify its underlying dysfunctional structures which tend to cause vulnerability to depression. Neurofeedback training also helps to renormalize sleeping patterns which are often disrupted by depression.  As a result of Neurofeedback training, many individuals report significant improvements in mood, energy level, sleep, and libido.

This approach to depression is especially indicated for those individuals who do not respond to anti-depressant medications or who cannot accept the side effects that can result from these medications. Those individuals who are on medication for depression generally find that Neurofeedback training enables them to reduce or eliminate their need for medication.  In this case, it is very important to coordinate medication adjustments with the prescribing physician or psychiatrist. Neurofeedback training also helps with a variety of issues which often accompany depression, such as addictions, obsessive compulsive behavior, and anxiety.
