Neurofeedback has a long and successful history training for ADD/ADHD symptoms and related learning and behavioral problems.  Since the 1970's this approach to ADD/ADHD has been studied and its effectiveness verified by a host of independent researchers.  Dr. Joel Lubar (1995) demonstrated in ten year follow-up studies that the effects of Neurofeedback training significantly reduced or eliminated ADD/ADHD symptoms for the vast majority of subjects. These personal gains were clearly maintained ten years after training had finished. Others have repeatedly demonstrated that improvements in functioning derived from Neurofeedback training are comparable, and/or superior to, the effects of Ritalin and other psychostimulants.

Neurofeedback trains the ADD/ADHD brain to greatly improve its skills of self-regulation.  In doing so, erratic focus, hyperactivity, anxiety, sleep disorders, and mood instability are reduced or eliminated due to a re-patterning and harmonization of brain function.  In fact, several independent and well-designed studies have shown that Neurofeedback training of children also significantly increases their IQ scores - anywhere from 10 to 30 point increases. The majority of people who receive Neurofeedback training for ADD/ADHD report improvements in school and/or work performance, social relationships, and self-esteem. Also, parents of ADD/ADHD children generally report significant reductions in oppositional behavior, hyperactivity, and mood instability.

At West Coast Counselling & Neurofeedback Clinic a holistic approach is taken with ADD/ADHD treatment.  This often includes some combination of personal coaching, social and behavioral life skills training, and/or parenting training strategies along with the Neuorfeedback training in order to enhance the overall effectiveness of the therapy.
